On 1 August 2016, the medium-to-high thickness plate mill in Tianjin Zhongwang succeeded in stretching an ultra-large aluminium alloy plate of 4300mm in width, which is currently the widest of its type manufactured in China, breaking Asia’s record in aluminium alloy stretching plate.

It is known that the processing technology of ultra-large aluminium alloy stretching plate of 4300mm in width is one of the most advanced technologies in the world. Such stretching plate, which is as wide as 4300 mm, has filled in void in China, and will not only lay a foundation for the production of ultra-large aluminium alloy stretching plate for shipbuilding in China, but also address the increasing market demand for wider aluminium alloy plate.

Currently, the production of medium-to-high thickness plates through quenching and stretching of aluminium alloy, especially the ultra-thick and ultra-wide stretching plates, is considered an important indicator to reflect the production capabilities and scientific and technological achievements of a country in aluminium fabrication.

“To address our production needs, Tianjin Zhongwang invested heavily to acquire the 100MN stretching machine from SMS MEER in Germany,” said an employee in Tianjin Zhongwang, “Tianjin Zhongwang’s success in producing such stretching plate marks another step forward in China’s capability of producing high-end aluminium alloy plate that is urgently needed in shipbuilding and aerospace sectors.”
