On June 29, the hot rolling plant of Tianjin Zhongwang Aluminium Company Limited successfully produced an ultra-large aluminium alloy plate of 4300mm in width, which is currently the widest of its type manufactured in Asia, marking another breakthrough in China’s production capability of high-end aluminium alloy plate.

With relentless efforts, SMS together with Zhongwang’ staff succeeded in rolling ingots into an ultra-large aluminium alloy plate of 4300mm in width at about 15:54 on that day following 32 times of rolling in 15 minutes, breaking Asia’s record of aluminium alloy plate in width.

It is known that the processing technology of ultra-large aluminium alloy plate of 4300mm in width is one of the most advanced technologies in the world. In response to the demand in shipbuilding and aerospace sectors in China, Tianjin Zhongwang invested heavily to acquire the rolling mill of 4500mm in width, the widest of its type in Asia, from SMS in Germany.

Such plate, which is as wide as 4300 mm, has filled in void in China, and will not only lay a foundation for the production of ultra-large aluminium alloy plate for shipbuilding in China, but also address the increasing market’s demand for wider aluminium alloy plate.

Currently, the production of medium-to-high thickness plates through quenching and stretching of aluminium alloy, especially the ultra-thick and ultra-wide pre-stretching plates, is considered an important indicator to reflect the production capabilities and scientific and technological achievements of a country in aluminium fabrication. Tianjin Zhongwang’s success in rolling such plate marks another step forward in China’s capability of producing high-end aluminium alloy plate that is urgently needed in shipbuilding and aerospace sectors.
