Recently, the “Zhongwang Transportation Equipment Aluminium Extrusion” produced by Liaoning Zhongwang Group Company Limited (“Zhongwang”) was certified as the Protected Eco-origin Product (“PEOP”) by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC (“AQSIQ”).
PEOP represents eco-friendly products that possess the characteristics of their place of origin and are environmentally friendly, low-carbon and energy-saving, including but not limited to, farming, forestry, husbandry and fishing product, processed food, artware as well as other industrial commodity.
Once certified as PEOP, the products shall use the uniform logo of “PEOP by China” so as to protect their intellectual property rights. Up to early this year, a total of 145 kinds of products in 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities are certified as PEOP in China.
According to publicly available information, AQSIQ initiated the PEOP certification in 2012, which represented a significant innovation in domestic ecological environment protection, industrial transformation and green consumption. At present, a number of eco label systems equivalent to China’s PEOP system are used in more than 50 countries and regions in the world.
According to experts, PEOP certification is conducted in terms of various basic elements including the place of origin and the use of raw material, manufacturing location, processing technology and procedure and purchase record, key elements including the characteristics and authenticity of the place of origin and its similarity to the standards and compliance of product name with intellectual property, as well as other aspects such as corporate social responsibility, working condition, packaging and transportation, energy conservation and emission reduction. As such, the PEOP certification involves not only a series of stringent examination of the products, but also a comprehensive assessment of the overall achievements of respective enterprises.
As per Zhongwang’s staff, with the PEOP certificates issued in recognition of Zhongwang’s commitment to green development through technological innovation, Zhongwang will continue to develop and produce more high value-added green products with the philosophy of green and environmental protection, so as to facilitate the development of green and smart manufacturing.
